As mentioned before, the Comoros Islands are made up of four main islands and several smaller islets. Moroni is the capital and is located Ngazidja. Located in the Indian Ocean and positioned in the Mozambique Channel, this country has plenty of water for amusements such as boating. Steep mountains and low hills make up most of the islands geography, but sandy, palm tree-filled beaches also make up the countryÂ’s coast. Volcanoes and rocky terrain are found on some of the newer islands, while lush, fertile harbors make up the geography of islands such as Mahore. Nzwani is known for its unusual shape, which is caused by three different mountain chains on the island. Coral reefs also surround the islands and make for abundant fish populations.

The flora of the island is also very well known. Fragrant breezes will envelope anyone on the islands, as it is one of the world’s largest producers of vanilla. Other fragrances blow through the winds of the islands, including cloves, ylang-ylang, and coconut. This combination of nasal delights has earned the islands the nickname “the perfumed islands.” Waterfalls, volcanic lakes, breathtaking vistas and more await people who wish to explore the geography of the islands. Undeveloped as it is, many seasoned travelers who wish to get away from the crowds of traditional vacation destinations, would be interested in touring the islands.
